Traveling by train through the Southwest in 1978 inspired Meditation; the expansiveness of the land brought to mind pacing and sound materials of the piece. Meditation features blues-like bent notes, harmonics, and a repeated strumming pattern that seemed to grow out of this experience. —Clement Reid
