Todd Mason’s new trio, Magical!, (for flute, viola, & harp) was commissioned by Chamber Music Palisades, and is about daily transformations from ordinary to magical!

Movement 1 - Sunrise depicts the magical change from night to the dawn of a new day.

Movement 2 - Daydreams opens a window into the realm when time stops and creativity and dreams begin.

Movement 3 - Magic Carpet imagines flying over a city as evening begins and streets come alive with lights and energy.

Mason says of the piece: “I love the textures and sounds of the flute, viola, and harp and the subject matter of this piece gave me an opportunity to explore fun and fanciful harmonic and melodic possibilities, some of which flirt with complex tonalities but also mixed with more traditional harmonic languages. But the larger goal is to take the listener on a magical and enjoyable musical journey to new and sometimes unexpected places!”

Level of difficulty: This piece is for music school level musicians and professionals. Flute and viola parts are of medium difficulty. Harp part is medium to difficult level.
